How to Keep Flowers Fresh in the UAE: A Florist's Care Guide

Three care steps for cut flowers in the UAE: trim two centimetres at an angle, keep away from sun, heat and AC, and change the water daily.

The UAE is glorious for many things — cut flowers' longevity is not naturally one of them. Heat outside, air conditioning inside, and long sunny days all shorten a bouquet's life. The good news: a few small habits make a dramatic difference. Here is how we keep flowers thriving in our own studio, adapted for your home.

The first ten minutes matter most

When a hand-tied bouquet arrives, trim each stem at an angle — about two centimetres — and place it straight into fresh, cool water. The angled cut opens more surface for drinking. Do this before the photos; the flowers will look better in them anyway.

Location, location

Keep arrangements away from direct sunlight, cooking heat, and the direct blast of an AC vent. A bright room is fine; a windowsill at 2 PM is not. Cooler corners buy you days.

Water is everything

Change bouquet water daily if you can, every second day at minimum, and re-trim stems each time. Cloudy water is the enemy — it blocks stems from drinking.

Three care steps for cut flowers in the UAE: trim about two centimetres off each stem at an angle on arrival, keep them away from direct sunlight, cooking heat and AC vents, and change the water daily or every second day at minimum. Boxes and baskets are watered between the stems every day or two because they sit on florist foam.
The routine in three steps, plus how boxes and baskets differ.

Boxes and baskets drink differently

Our flower boxes and baskets are built on florist foam, which acts as a reservoir. Pour a small glass of water into the box every day or two, aiming between the stems. No vase, no rearranging — that is the point of the format.

Know your flower's personality

A few of our favourites have quirks worth knowing. Hydrangeas drink through their petals as well as their stems — a light daily mist keeps the heads plump. Lilies arrive as buds on purpose; they open over several days, so the arrangement improves all week. Tulips keep growing gently in the vase and lean toward light — charming, not a fault. Sunflowers are thirsty; keep their water deep. Peonies unfurl wider each day — give them room.

The little extras

Remove any leaves sitting below the waterline, and take out individual stems as they fade so they do not hurry the others along. If your arrangement came with flower food, use it with the first water change.

Follow these and most Bloomistry arrangements will reward you well beyond the occasion. And when it is time for the next one, you know where to find us — the full collection is here, handcrafted to order and delivered fresh across the UAE.
